Subject: [T3] static timing. and moly paste > Hey everyone... > Static timing is timing the engine when its not running, right? how do > you do this... turn it to TDC and make sure that the rotor is pointing in the > right direction?? > Did the long block come with the distributor drive gear installed???? This is one thing you want to get right the first time. The Bentley shows how to do it, if it is not already installed. If you want to do this on the floor, before the engine is in the car, set the engine on TDC #1. Install the distributor with the rotor pointing at the small mark in the edge of the housing. Now connect an ohm meter across the points, and slowly turn the distributor until the shows 0 ohms, now turn the dist. the other way "just" until the meter shows infinity. This should be close enough to get the engine started. > oh, and what is moly paste? what would it say on the outside of the > container? and would this be available at my FLAPS?? > It is Molybdium <spelling> di-sulfide grease. It should come in a small tube, and be marked as such. You should be able to buy it at about any decent parts store. What are they wanting you to use it on???
