Further to the discussion about fuel-pumps, someone asked about the higher pressure of the Type3 pump compared to Bugs & Busses. I bought a 1961 Factory workshop manual at the weekend, and to quote the book; "The diaphragm spring installed in the fuel pump of the Type3 to give the higher output required is covered with a brass coloured coating with effect from November 1962. The previous springs on the Type 3 differed only in wire thickness from those on Types 1 and 2". It goes on to say that the Type 3 spring is 1.6mm wire, p/n 311 127 147, while the Types 1 & 2 are 1.5mm wire, p/n 113 127 147. The fuel pressure for the Type 3 is 4.2psi. It doesn't mention different parts for single and twin carbs, so maybe the extra pressure is just because of the different height of the tank compared to the other types. The book is full of fascinating and fairly useless facts like that, but I'll try not to bore you too much with them! ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
