I think you are talking about the FRONT half of the fan housing, and it's mounting holes to the case. If I'm right, you may remember that the engine originally came without gaskets on either side of the metal louvered plate that goes under the breather stand. You're right. If you add the gaskets that ALL the instructions show, then the breather stand is pushed up too high.
