Another problem with my car is that the idle varies, somtimes too low and sometimes too high depending on the time , hour or day. It is obvously random. I could not find the problem with the EFI but I remember a guy with a fastback during the San Diego type three gathering this month. He showed me an always open electric air valve that mounts on the case, it was either broken open or stuck with gunk. He complained I think about his idle being too high and when he disconnected the two wires from the electric air valve the engine would turn off but air valve would stay open. air valve must stay open in the cold to give you a little boost of air and gas after warmup it would be almost closed and slow the idle down otherwise this acts as an air leak which causes higher idle and more gas to enter the engine. I beleive my problem is the air valve too. I will take mine apart this weekend and let you guys know. questions: - have any of you had the problem of intermitantly open air valves causing varying idles ? - do you know why my freind's car shuts down when disconnecting the two wire airvalve (mine does not shut down and has one wire) with the first EFI setup (1968) . The throttle switch airvalve and brain is different.? - Does anyone know or have a diagram for this system, it is not the same as the later ones and his shuts down when airvalve is disconnected. I wish to find out why his engine shuts down, is this airvalve essential to the "brain's" operation? The only diagram I can see is kind of a block diagram in the books it is the older system.
