I have had several brains, I think the brain I have now is not a type 3, anyhow I am talking about the air temp sensor. This sensor is for fine tuning the mixture, if you remove the HEAD temp sensor the engine will die because the brain needs the ground to command injection time. Some people on the list commented in the past that this sensor seem to do nothing when disconnected. I can be wrong for other "brains" but this has been my experience and others. I have only worked with these kind of cars for a year now so I can be wrong for you you or other peoples setups.
