I really don't think that properly installed case savers should ever pull out if the studs are also properly torqued. Starting around 69 VW started having trouble with engines overheating and studs pulling out. This was with the studs threaded directly into the magnesium case casting. The case savers have always cured this problem for me, and I am VERY surprised to hear about a problem with a 66. Has this engine been modified in some way that might make it run hotter? Is all the cooling tin in place? Were the studs carefully torqued to the proper factory spec for the right diameter stud? - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Pitch in!
