Okay, it shouldn't do this so we're close to a solution. Do you hear 
a relay click when the pump stops?

If your jumper wire was just around the fuel pump relay (to keep 
power going to the pump) then it is most likely that your pump relay 
is bad.

It is also possible that there is a problem in the wiring to the pump 
relay. The most probably place for this would be that an inline 
connector in the wiring harness in the engine compartment.

Look at the front of the engine, against the "firewall", just to the 
left of center and see if you can find a connector there, sometimes 
still secured by a nylon tie-wrap. Make sure this is sound.
