go to www.geneberg.com and look under tech tips. Under engine recommendations note that they recommend thick wall 88 cylinders and comment about the 90.5 as having a slightly shorter life and a couple degrees hotter run temp for type 3 engines. I could not find any info or recommendations on stroke from their website. I am sure they have comments about this and would probably discuss over the phone. The engine builders I have talked to in the Pacific Northwest recommend nothing larger than 90.5 cylinders but don't seem to be concerned about how far you want to stroke it. I am not going to build my stroker engine till next winter, so I have not dug into this any deeper. I figure I'll build with 90.5 cylinders and 76 or 78 crank. I am concerned about relieving the case for crank clearance. It is funny, however, that when I asked some of the professional builders to build me a type3 performance engine most of them recommended someone else. They are all aware of the cooling characteristics of the type3 and I think that scares them a little (concerns about how the owner drives and warranty issues?). If you can afford it, just call Gene Berg Enterprises and tell them what you are thinking, how you drive, and how the car will primarily be used, and I am sure they will give you their best knowledge, quality, and await your check.
