re: Aftermarket FI (engine management system)

There are a few choices available for aftermarket FI. The price varies,
like everything, on how much you're willing to do / learn how to do
yourself. Toby had a good list of links for FI stuff, as I recall. One of
the most popular (or at least best advertised) is the CB performance fuel
injection, which uses a GM ECM (General Motors, Engine Control Module). I'm
not certain which particular one it is (and if anyone happens to have this
system, I'd love to find out which ECM model it is), but ~70% of the GM ECMs
have been hacked and appear on all sorts of vehicles. www.diy-efi.org/gmecm
is a good place to start. If one were to take the time to figure it out,
the parts alone would cost a lot less than the $1500 US or so that CB
charges. Besides, if you're programming your own chips, you can do really
sick stuff like put 2 turbos on your parts car. One of the guys on the
GMECM list did that, and can't keep tires under it. P-mail me and I'll look
for the link to his page if anyone's interested. I plan on using a GM
system on my fastback when I get started working on it again. Should be
mid-summer or early fall... I'll have to get the equipment to do chips, and
will probably do the fasty before I start on my Suburban. Might be looking
for a budget 1600 to use as a "test dummy" while I'm figuring out the
programming. Cheaper than potentially melting down my 2L or the 400 CI
engine for the 'burb.
