Where do you think the oil is getting in? May the felt pad have been over-lubricated, and it's getting in that way? Do you think it's coming in from the case somehow? In removing the points to clean them etc., I suspect you had to perturb a couple of things (like, even the points' electrical plug). Any chance one of these other things might have been the true culprit? Just some random thoughts... it's tough when the trouble comes and goes like that!
