Ok.. Ok... geeeesss... a STOCK bolt is torqued down to...... yes .... 250 to 260 pounds depending on what book you read. I have even seen it in some "Brand X" books rated at 275 pounds. OK class, that is "Stock VW 101"............... Just remember '' Luke, Come To The Dark Side "....... that is what this project is. It is a 2.2Liter ,FI engine. The recommendation for the lightened flywheel and the Kennedy clutch components is 300 pounds. I understand that the stock nut will take up to 400 pounds. Even on Page 128 of the "How To Rebuild Your Volkswagen Engine" by Tom Wilson he says 300 pounds. Gene Berg had it written somewhere once also. It is pretty much a standard on sand rails to get the poundage at 300 pounds. The problem here is never (I didn't follow my own advise...sigh) use a used stock glan nut on the hotter setups. I am sure Toby used a beefy new nut on his wonderful Der Autobahn flyer. What the original question was (thanks Russ for the recommendation.. the Easy out worked at about 100 pounds...:+).....) was to get good ideas on how to remove the stub out of the crank. The cold chisel and 'get a bigger hammer' crowd kinda scares me...lol..... so I went to the most brilliant minds in all of Type III land, YOU GUYS (and gals). Thanks For Keeping Them On The Road...
