I've seen one, and owned a Stebro copy. I think both were good. 
The doubled up tailpipes were the trademark. The type 3 muffler 
had 2 tailpipes exiting at the correct spot on the left. They also 
made a Beetle version which had 4 tailpipes (2 in each original 
position.)

They fit to the engine just like the OE muffler, but they did not use 
separate tailpipe/damper pipes--it was all one solid welded unit. 
They were extremely heavy as I recall.
