The single pin calipers were ONLY used on early disk brake Ghias. All Ghia calipers use 40mm pistons. All type 3 calipers were 2 pin with 42mm pistons. The calipers you have WILL bolt onto 66-71 type 3 steering knuckles, but they will not give the same braking due to the smaller pistons, so I do not consider them a suitable substitute. They will NOT fit on the late, 72-3, type 3 front ends. They MAY be valuable to some Ghia folks since all the replacement Ghia calipers for years have come with dual pins (which still have the 40mm pistons.) Over the years, I have acquired a number of dual pin Ghia calipers which I have taken off type 3s. As luck would have it, they are all Lefts! It sure helps the braking when you get the same size caliper on BOTH sides of a car! If anyone knows of someone who would like 1-3 nice rebuilt type 1 Ghia calipers, please contact me. The price could be very friendly. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Pitch in!
