There was a series of Type 3 adverts in the UK mid '60s, based on the Notchback's success in rallying. Didn't hear much more once the 1600 came out though. The 1500S had a marginally higher claimed bhp, and gained the highest placing ever for a VW in the British RAC Rally. There's mention of this in the current Volkswagen Driver Fastback article. Dave.
