In reply to the frozen starter, I've got a few suggestions that have worked for me in the past. One of which is that if it is truly frozen up with water and ice, you could try using a hair dryer on it and warming it up enough to try to get it to start, or park it in a warmed garage. I've used that trick on american cars before, but never on my SB because I don't drive it in the snow. Second of all, I don't know if this is an issue in type 3's however, once in my younger days, my uneducated days when I owned a type 2, the starter just froze up on it in the middle of the summer. From my understanding, it had to do with the starter catching on the flywheel, or was it the solenoid catching on the starter. Anyways, what I had to do to solve this problem was to take Muir's advice, put the car in to second gear, then rock it backwards a few times. Whether or not this is what you should do in this case, I do not know.
