I don't think the person who sold you these parts remembers correctly. The 0 280 000 039 crosses to a CU22x ECU which is for a 73-4 Saab 99EMS. There's no telling what the differences are. I don't have any easy way to look for the dist number, but it is not a type 3 number, nor is it the right part for the Saab, above. A 71 type 3 took a 0 231 163 018, however; could you have mistaken the 3 for an 8? Dists (and, I think, ECUs) used on VWs would always have the VW # as well as the Bosch #.
