Yours should be a kind of 4 sided frame that the thermostat bolts to the bottom of, and the top stops its motion upward. I don't think there is any other kind of bracket for these, but who knows what you've got there.... Generally, thermostats which have overexpanded and popped are a sure sign that the engine is overheating. Check to make sure that the cooling air intake bellows is intact and properly installed so that the engine only gets COOL air sucked in to cool itself. Cooling flaps left permanently open prolong the warmup time of the engine, and this brings faster engine wear, since warmup is when most engine wear occurs. So this is worth figuring out and fixing. Of course all the thermostat linkage parts have to be there, properly assembled, and properly adjusted. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
