Even more than with the other Type 3s you need to look out for rust and
evidence of previous accidents. And finding a really complete car would
be the goal even if it's initially more expensive, because buying all
those rare parts individually will add up very quickly.

I disagree with this: in my experience a Type 34 in good original
condition has the best handling of all swingaxle VWs, even better than
the other Type 3s due to a considerably lower center of gravity. I'm
told that adding a camber compensator makes cornering even better.

They're really great cars. I've owned two over the last 15 years and
highly recommend one to anyone looking for a rewarding VW restoration
project.
