<x-charset iso-8859-1> There were a few requests for my links so here is my story: I don't claim to be an expert but I would like to share my findings. I hope they are useful. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask me, It may be something that I have already done on my car. If anything I state is incorrect, please feel free to e-mail me with a correction and I will send the correction to anyone that received this email. Knowing the parts of the FI injection system was the biggest help to me. These links do a pretty good job explaining what parts of the system do what and how they work. First, know which system you have because the D-jetronic and the L-Jetronic are different. My '69 has the D-jetronic and the newer models have the L-jetronic. Some links are specific to Porsche or Volvo which is ok as long as they still refer to your system the D-jetronic or L-jetronic. Just be sure to use specifics to your vehicle such as the exact fuel pressure ect. The link called "EFI-D and EFI-L.url" is a .PDF of the Bosch manual, this one is a must have for defining the way the system works. Before working with the fuel injection, I would recommend you check or replace you spark plugs, wires, and points. Remember that the dwell angle of your points needs to be 45-50 degrees. If it is not, your car will not run good anyways. Gapping your points with a gauge will not be as accurate as using a dwell meter either. If you must use a feeler gauge to set your points, they should be gapped between .016" and .02". Personally, the points have given me alot of trouble and I plan on replacing them with pentronix electronic system. There are some basics that you will see everywhere. They are: No air leaks in the hoses. Fuel pressure must be 28 psi. (for my '69 with a 1600cc). This is the one that was messing up my system, it was only 25psi. After I adjusted the fuel regulator to 28 it ran much better. The injector wires with gray boot should be on cylinders 2 and 4 ( the rear most 2 injectors) and the black booted wires should be on cylinders 1 and 3 ( the forward most 2 injectors) Is the throttle switch set correctly? On the '68 and '69; Turn it all the way clockwise and then back counterclockwise until it clicks, then move it 2 more degrees. There should be degree marks located by the top screw that fastens the switch to the throttle body. This switch turns the fuel off when engine goes from a under load condition to a no load condition until either the accelerator pedal is pushed again or the car returns to idle ( this will be determined by the pressure in the intake body. This was a fuel economy and emissions devise. The pressure sensor seams to be a critical component. It tells the brain what the load condition of the car is to make adjustments of the duration of the injection. If yours hasn't been messed with and you want to try to adjust it here are some very important notes: Make sure you know were it was at when you started because this probably isn't your problem and changing it's setting is going to richen it up, if you turn it counterclockwise or lean it out if you turn it clockwise. I have read that even a quarter turn will affect the system. I have asked a few different forums how to adjust the pressure sensor and the closest answer I have come up with is that you probably need some type of an exhaust analyzer or an oxygen sensor. For 69&70 type 3 I read this: Model CO% Idle RPM 1969-70 2.8-3.1 850-900 The pressure sensor will affect the emissions and fuel economy of your car a lot. One of the pages I read said they lean it out (tighten the pressure sensor adjusting screw) until it runs poorly and then back it out about a 1/4 turn (richen it up). I don't have an oxygen sensor so I have tuned mine "by ear". I have mine set at about 3/4 of a turn counterclockwise from all the way tight (clockwise). Note that I did not notice a large difference in the way the car runs from turning the adjustment screw. I have The Bentley manual and it has some good information in it too. I hope this information is helpful and apologize if anything is incorrect. Like I said, these are nothing more than my finds on the internet and conclusions I have made while working on my car. Please let me know if you get this letter and the six links are not attached and I will resend it. If any of you have other good links on the subject, feel free to send them to me.
