So a 1500S without a gas heater or evidence of a previous gas heater installation is unlikely to be a Canadian import. That means most of the the 1500S Squarebacks I've seen got to the US some other way. >>Also as Jason noted the sidemarkers were dropped in 65.<< And this is where it gets interesting: M297, the option that replaces the side parking lamps with longer aluminum trim, was first offered in August 1963. That's a year before the parking lamps were dropped for the Canadian market. So I think this option was intended originally for US-bound cars. It would be interesting to me to know how many Type 3s were registered in the US before August 65. Anyone know a reference source for old registration records?
