<x-charset iso-8859-1>Joe McG=> What are some factors that would => cause you to reject a possible purchase? I guess these would be the same for almost any old car that isn't particularly rare (and vanishingly few VW models are). I have two guaranteed deal-killers. 1. Substantial body damage is worse than rust, but I wouldn't buy rust either -- there are just too many good cars available. For a good body I'll forgive a lot. 2. Look hard at the pan and suspension for old collision kinks -- a bent pan is not a good investment (I know, I've got one). Forget the mechanical stuff, you'll want to plan on redoing it all anyway. If you want a real restoration, don't buy a car that's missing a lot of small parts. And don't automatically reject buying out of state -- it's not as hard as it might seem, particularly with other listees to help. Good luck!
