<x-charset iso-8859-1> I've had my fastback on the road for about a month and a half now and in general am thrilled to bits with it. I've almost stopped the water leaks but really need to sort out the plenum next summer as it still gets in there. The past couple of days though I've been getting a strange intermittent clunking coming from the rear. It comes on particularly when driving hard to the right and often goes away when driving left. It seems about the frequency of the wheels going round and disappears if the clutch is pressed so I don't think its wheel bearings. My guess is it is something to do with the drive shafts or differential- I'm hoping nothing terminal. Any ideas? Also I've just realised that I've been driving all this time with my ignition set wrong. I set it by the Haynes manual diagram which shows 7.5 deg as the second groove in the fan. The car hasn't been running very well and yesterday I closely examined the remains of the silver sticker on the fan housing and it shows this mark as being TDC- 7.5 is the fourth mark! Anyway I adjusted the distributor and the engine runs much better- although it seems it would like even more advance- the more I advance the faster and smoother the idle becomes. When I bought the car it was set to about 40 deg BTDC! and seemed to run fine- though the valves had NO clearance and the cooling flaps were seized shut. Given this mistreatment it is amazing it runs at all. Is it possible that the fan could be on wrong as it seems it would really like more advance? Thanks in advance for any ideas Mark Seaton Orange and Rust 73 Fastback London _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
