The variation in pump speed may be an indication of voltage flucations as the 
engine speed rises and falls.
As to the cutting out, check the connections at the FI power relay under the 
back seat, near the voltage regulator. Check the ground. check for loose 
connections in the engine compartment. Trigger points etc.
