When > I'm driving down the road there is a good 10-15 degrees of play either left > or right before my turning actually turns the wheel. Before you get too far into the steering box, go the the front wheel and pull outwards and push in on the top of it. If it goes clonk-clonk as the stabiliser bar moves side to side, you've found the most likely cause of such a large dead sector in your steering. It may be the clamp screw that's rounded and slipped from the hole it sits in, or something rather less happy. If that's OK, get under and see if the steering shaft into the box turns without the output moving much. If so, it's the box! Don't forget to adjust the big socket screw first (loosen hexagon locknut ring!) and follow the Bentley instructions. It says to do the bottom adjustment first, but for some reason most people seem to jump in and do the top adjustment only. Dave.
