CharlesN=> Is there an adjustment I can do to fix => this or do I just need to get a new steering box? Depends on how much it's been adjusted in the past. If your car hasn't been much messed with, then it's likely you can adjust the play out, and you should try it in any case before you go spending the hundred bucks for the rebuilt one. The basic procedure is simple and in all the manuals, as well as the archives on the T3 site if I recall correctly. You have to remove the spare well, but not necessarily the fuel tank. (Removing the tank makes the job a lot easier and you can do it without lifting the car, of course.) If you can get hold of a 90-degree screwdriver (like an Allen wrench with a blade on it) it will help a lot if you're not removing the tank. => what else should be replaced down there (steering or => suspension related items) while the gas tank is out? There's supposed to be a cushion around the rim of the tank that's probably rotted away, and you'll want to clean up the tank clamps so there's a good electrical connection between the tank and the body. You have to do the suspension joints from underneath anyway, so the tank's not involved. It's nice to be able to get in and get a good look at your brake components and like that from the top, check the condition of the lines. It's also marginally easier to assess the front body mounts and rubber beam sleeves. Plan for some cleaning. Reconditioning the tank is a worthwhile investment if it needs doing.
