[T3] Oil Suction Pipe

During a routine oil change today I had one of the 6 studs come out with the acorn nut for the oil strainer. It was a long stud, not short like the rest. I didn't think much of it as I started to screw the stud back in. At this point a nut and two washers fell out of the hole. I opened Bentley to p.39 of the engine section, and I think what I found is the nut and washers shown in Fig. 20-3. The assembly that holds the oil suction pipe in place.

I've never built a VW engine, but I'm guessing that the relatively long stud that came out with my acorn nut attaches on the inside end to the nut to hold the oil pipe in place. Sound right? And I guess that the other 5 studs that hold the oil strainer are shorter?? I just want to understand exactly what should be down there.

I test fitted the oil strainer into the oil suction pipe, and I verified that the oil pipe has not shifted position. I think I can just barely fit my 10mm wrench in there to hold the nut in place as I attempt to put the stud back through. It's too late at night right now to try (been gardening all day and I'm tired), but do you all think this will work? If I can help it, I don't want to split the case to repair this. Please don't tell me I must split the case..

To keep this thing from loosening again, is a drop of Loctite warranted here? Thanks for any help!
