[T3] A PO's Present

Well I finally got the surprise present from the PO of the '72 Vagrant
Variant my son and I have been working on for him. Here's the sequence;
    - 65 MPH on the freeway in rush hour traffic(Seattle traffic, rated one
of the worst in the nation)
    - sudden banging in the engine bay (I thought all the recipricating
parts were flying out)
    - engine off in the first 15 sec(pray I didn't turn the key too far) ,
and coasted to the shoulder.
    - rear hatch up, engine bay opened. All appears intact.
    - NOISE WAS ROTATIONAL, pull gen belt cover, inspect. find fresh scuffed
aluminum on outside of fan.
    - pull bellows for better(?) access (good ol' pocket knife, as a
SCREWDRIVER)
    - probe gently with fingers (engine off, right?)
    - pull out OUTER GENERATOR PULLEY HALF in 2 pieces!!!!!
The only conclusion I can come to is that the PO couldn't find the
pieces when the old pulley broke(too lazy to pull the bellows).
-drove home without the bellows, kept the speed down.
    Once home:
    - 20 minute inspection of the fan/fan housing with mirror and strong
light, the outside of the fan(not the blades) was scuffed as was the inside
of the fan housing. No apparent cracks or breaks.
    - sniffed the oil because of running without the bellows, didn't smell
burnt (thank you Duralube)
I sit here now, soaking the bellows in hot water in the kitchen
sink(that's what the sink's for isn't it?). The only way to further inspect
the fan/fan housing would be teardown and Mag Particle inspection. I didn't
see enough damage to warrant that ... yet.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm going to be very lucky and the
surprise present from the PO has done no more than scuff up some parts.
