If I'm not mistaken, the pins are the same on 1s and 3s. Some of the list Gurus are probably more sure about this one. If the pin is the same (I hope so, have a sloppy hinge on my car as well) then you need to press and replace the old one. Drilling is almost impossible, as far as I've experienced on my Bug.
