Jim, The thought just crossed my mind that there is a small chance that this "1977 Type 3 Variant" could be a 1977 VW Passat Variant or, in US terms, a 1977 VW Dasher Wagon. These Passat/Dashers were also officially Type 3s because Volkswagen classified them as Type 33 for the Variant or station wagon and Type 32 for the two and four door sedans. However, we all know what a real "Type 3" is!
