Hmmm, I've only ever seen magazine ads with deck lid stand-offs for the
*top* of a Beetle deck lid...! I suspect that these issues are not simple
matters.
The owner of my FLVWAPS suggested spacing out the bottom of the decklid on
my B*g, a '65, when I put the current engine in with a doghouse
cooler. The ducting and larger fan on the doghouse system requires more
airflow than the slots under the rear window can provide, which is why the
later cars with factory doghouse coolers had extra slots in the decklid. I
raised the latch with some long bolts, using a couple of chunks of old fuel
line for spacers -- my oil temps immediately dropped about 20F.
Even if standoffs as described would help, that doesn't appear to
have been done for this engine...
I'm not familiar with how the Notch rear lid hinges are attached, so I have
no idea how someone would make standoffs for the top, but spacing out the
bottom doesn't seem too difficult. One might have to get a bit of extra
slack on the release cable, though. Our Fasty is mostly stock, and is
going to stay that way, so it's not an issue I'm going to have to deal
