[T3] 71 Auto FI with crazy hestitation

Hello all-  I've got a odd one for you.

Good budd of mine got a sweet, unabused 71 a couple of months ago.  Had it
tuned, I checked out the FI, great compression (130 all around), no
problems.

About a month ago he started to get some hesitation during acceleration form
a stop.  In neutral the car rev's somewhat sluggishly, but in gear, from a
stop, it took me about 4 seconds to move faster than an old lady with a
walker.

Once it gets goin, no problems- he goes 75-80 without problems.  When I
drove it, I noticed a sharp increase in power at 5 seconds-  like it finally
woke up.

The auto thing throws me off.  Is it an FI issue I'm not used? an auto
thing?  The FI checked out fine on the 1218 tester, and worked fine, a month
and a half ago.
