[T3] engine performance upgrade

I've got a '72 Square that I'm putting a rebuilt engine in.  I'm
wondering, does anyone have any ideas/opinions on inexpensive
performance enhancements I could have the shop add to a stock engine?
Maybe better heads?  I definately don't want to spend over $500 extra.
I'm looking for a good balance of price and performance improvement
(obviously) but i also don't want to tack on too many extra labor
hours.  Thanks for any ideas.
