The type 3 mufflers all have the heat shields on top, the lower connections are also farther apart than on any of the type 1/2 mufflers. Some of the bus mufflers used an angled outlet pipe at the rear like this has, but they would have the little built-in heat exchangers on the upper inlet pipes. My best guess: If the lower inlet pipes are much too close together for a type 3 then it is a type 1 industrial engine muffler. My second best guess: If the lower inlet pipes are about the right distance apart then it is a type 3 industrial muffler of a type that is not shown in my microfilm.
