Test the oil pressure at idle (around 8 psi) and around 2,500 rpm (around 30 psi). That will tell you if you have an oil pressure problem. Timing, valves etc won't cure it - only an engine overhaul will do that. Or buy a new oil pressure switch, and see if it stops doing it. Maybe the switch is faulty, though I would expect it to become less likely to come on as the spring weakens rather than more likely. Some switches have different ranges. I think 5 - 8 psi is the range needed for these. VW service literature says the oil light can flicker at idle, but should go out as you speed up. A slow idle makes this more likely, but yours is correct. Are you getting any deep rumbling or clonking noises at idle, which would indicate there is too much bearing wear? Dave.
