Listees, I would just like to make a general comment and request. We have a lot of people on the list now and this is a great thing, but I have been having a fair amount of trouble with confused identities. The problem stems from people who set their email programs up with a nickname for themselves. While most of the time this is harmless, almost every week I get something in the snail mail from someone that I can't identify just because THIS is from the REAL name, while all my previous correspondence is from some pseudonym. I then spend some time gong through my past correspondence trying to figure out just who this person is and what exactly I promised them. I realize that in some cases these pseudonyms were set up and forgotten long ago, while in some cases people feel that they need to protect their privacy from that most vicious of all media, the Internet. However, I would like to suggest that this group has demonstrated itself to be responsible enough that each of us can afford to reveal our true identity. This will not only help me, and others on the list, but it will help ease communications between all of us. For example Keith Park stopped by here last year and we had a nice visit. I'm glad that his visit didn't start off by his having to tell me that his real name was something else. I guess that would have left me feeling somehow cheated. Instead, our visit was completely positive and I think we both came away feeling that we had met a friend and learned something useful. I know I did. As for Internet privacy: Well, I post under my own name all the time, here, as well as on several newsgroups, and get a minimum of junk email. And what I get is easily deleted. So let me encourage each of you who is suffering under a pseudonym to "come out of the closet" and join the rest of us. I think you'll be glad you did. Oh, and, along the same line, if you post from more than 1 computer, you might want to check to see if your identity is the same on each of them. If I posted from 3 computer as Jim Adney, James Adney, and Adney, James, that would make it hard for you to find all my posts. If you're not sure how your software is set up, just send yourself a message and see who it is "From." If it doesn't turn out the way you expected, go look at your email program's configuration and change it as necessary. thanks for the read, Jim - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
