The VW split boots are thicker. Actually they taper to almost 4mm thick
on the split clamping side. The PO's repair boots were flimsy 1mm thick
copies. The VW ones cost all of $3.50@, why bother with something cheaper!
Yes, I just replaced my leaking ones. Now, no more leaks from the boot,
but I discovered that it is leaking from the tranny. As near as I can tell
it is dripping from one of the side cover plate (I think that's what it's
called). There are several bolts in a hexagonal shape, can I just tighten
these down a little bit?
