Do you have the split flange pointing straight rearward so that it is 
as flexible as possible (perpendicular to the bending plane?)

Did you use sealant to the axle tube? And not stretch it out on the 
tube (to maximize flexibility?)

I have heard that the genuine VW split boots are better than the 
aftermarket ones, but I don't know this from first hand experience.
