Just thought I'd drop a line to introduce myself. I bought, three days ago, my first air-cooled volkswagen. It's a 1970 Type III square with a three speed automatic transmission. The car, I'm told has only 79,000 original miles (if the odo is correct). I've had to work the past few days so I haven't really had a chance to start tinkering with it yet. It runs very strong, fires up on th first shot, etc. It is still FI and the interior is pristine, with only some very minor surface rust on the floor boards. All of the mechanicals seem to work, and I've already solved some minor electrical stuff by cleaning contacts on the fuse block under the dash. The original owner's manual is still in the glove box as well as the owner's manual for the Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. As far as I can tell all it needs is a good exterior paint job and a dash pad (two splits near the speaker grille). Aside from that some spit polish and a little lovin'. My first Volkswagen was an '84 GTi that I adored, but maintenance costs and a free BMW ended that relationship. When I saw this square I thought, now that is too funky, I gotta have it. I hope that this is the beginning of a long and rewarding hobby. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions once I start getting into this, but for now I'll end this before I get flamed for having too long a post. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
