I have no idea what condition your motor is in, but for the most part it sounds fine. None of that should cause your rubbing block to wear. That is only between the dist cam and the rubbing block. After years of use and abuse the dirt that gets caught there is rubbed into the cam and causes the cam to get rough. That will wear out the rubbing block. You need to start out with a smooth cam and keep it properly lubricated with clean (abrasive-free) grease. I rebuild these distributors. One of the main things I do is refinish the cam so it is smooth again. This takes a lot of time and I charge $50 plus parts, if necessary, for this. I have had very good luck in the past, but one of our list members (Mike, in NYC) has a distributor that I rebuilt for him that seems not to be worr[** right so far. I will have Bosch cam lube for sale next week. I can rebuild yours; it probably needs it. Mike should let me take another look at his distributor so I can try to get it straightened out.
