This may or may not be your problem. Verifying is the right way to start. A reasonable way to check is to remove the pump and see if the grease that the lower half was once packed with is still there. If it is, then your diaphram is fine. If %Þ+: ce is filled with gas, then that also answers your question. If it is unclear, then it probably makes sense to pack the space half full with grease and let it run for a couple of weeks. Then repeat this test. Keep in mind that if the diaphram was badly torn the pump wouldn't deliver gas at all. You need to be careful when you remove the pump. Take off the two nuts and pull the pump up while holding the bakelite spacer under it down. If you let the spacer come up, then the push rod will drop into the engine. YOU DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN!!!
