Nope, quite a different feel and look; almost like non-stick in appearance. Genuine VW part (and genuine throwout). Normally they are shiny metal, even the water-cooled ones. The new throwout bearing I fitted had a plastic ribbed inner lining to match. Dave. I never saw a black one, but somethimes they LOOK black because of all the dirt mixed in the grease that they are coated with.
