[T3] Auto out - manual (stick shift) in?

My wife has a 70 notch its a twin carb 1600 auto (vroooom....)

Last weekend I had the opportunity to pick up an accident damaged
73 fastback with a honking great engine (one year old) and manual
trans.  The plan is to put the 1835 in the notch (I'm
the vintage pervert and she's the rev head).....

I'm a bit concerned about the motor working smoothly
with the auto, and Chris would prefer a manual for
'increased' driveability..

What's involved with a change from auto to manual?
Anybody done one?  I'd guess pedal cluster, shift
etc, but what about clutch cable?  

Any feedback much appreciated.  Direct responses
would be appreciated cos I live on the vintagebus
list but I will pop across and keep an eye on the
type3 list via the archive.....
