You indicate that you have a 72. The 72 is unique in having both a
vacuum retard and a vacuum advance. The timing procedure is also
unique. You really need to have the Bentley manual to do this
correctly. The short version is that you must remove the green retard
hose from the vacuum cannister when you do the timing; this will
change the idle, however, so you have to:
1) remove the hose,
2) adjust the idle,
3) adjust the timing to 5 BTDC.
4) redo 3 &4 until there is no change,
5) reinstall the hoses,
6) reset the idle.

No. Besides that is not your problem. The distrubutor you have is
excellent. Get a good manual.
