Okay, I went to the microfilm and it turns out the Tim is EXACTLY RIGHT! There were 9 kinds of generators used on type 3s. #1 was a 90mm dia 6V, while types 2-3 were 90mm 12V available as M630/M633 as Tim said. All the rest are 105mm 12 V. So Steve's 6V gen is a smaller diameter than my 12 V and these must have been supplied with an open drive end cover plate. I apologize for my confusion.
