CaysonE=> the generator throws out actual sparks from what looks like => the brushes on the underside. I'd suggest taking it out and inspecting it closely for foreign matter trapped in there. You may find that the lower brush is damaged. This is not normal or desirable. Also, you're missing the brush cover, a wide strap of sheetmetal that wraps around the brush access holes and terminals. This cover helps direct cooling air to the front generator bearing.
