[T3] Seat movement.

I replaced my original, old, molding carpet last January¶1še process, I obviously removed the seats. One thing that I noticed
was that the low tech safety system which keeps the seat backs from moving
when the doors are closed - the wire which runs from under the seat to the
door post - was causing a water leak. Water was running down the door post
(where the hinges attach to the door and chassis), past the door seal and
into the cabin through the hole where this tiny, spring loaded stop was
mounted. The water also managed to find its way into the heater channel
through the opening on the floor where the "warm" air blows out onto my
feet.

Furthermore, the safety had really not worked for awhile (Y2K related stuff
I am sure), so I felt OK with junking this.

Tired of the leak and other hassles, I removed the 1.2m wire from each seat
and detached it from the door post (not an easy undertaking). Then I MIG
welded the hole for the stop shut. Now you cannot even tell it was ever
there.

I was feeling pretty smart once I had the carpet set glued to the floor,
seats back in and ready to roll.

I got a small surprise when the former low tech safety system (now in the
trash) was working again, and all of the time. The seat backs do not move
at all now.

I looked under the seat where the wire was once attached and there is some
bar that runs from one side of the seat to the other. For the life of me,
I cannot figure out how this is keeping the seat back from moving or what I
have messed up.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or should I take my Square to VAG and
have them fix it? I m sure they'd only want about $52,000 to fix it.

Help! I need to ferry passengers around but it is not working when sk them
to get in the back seat from the rear cargo area.

Thanks.

Patrick
