I've been told that the first generation of Bosch Platinum plugs did 
this, but that was years ago. Mine have not had any trouble. Is there 
any chance that yours were very old stock?

I'm not really defending them. They seem to work fine for me, but so 
do the regular W8ACs. I only used them because I had them and I 
thought I ought to give them a try. I can't see that they are worth 
any extra money.
