[T3] KG brake calipers (was: Brake parts for rebuilding)

Interesting that T1 KG calipers would fit.
Of course you probably knew somebody would ask this following question:
What is it that doesn't work right about the KG calipers?... if both sides
are replaced to give even braking on left and right, would that work? Or is
it that a KG caliper doesn't push the T3 pads properly? I mean, what's 2 mm
between friends?
And then is there really any benefit to using KG calipers? are they cheaper
or easier to find maybe?
And finally, should we be checking part numbers to make sure we have the
correct calipers on our cars? I assume the correct part would have 311 on it
somewhere, where the KG part wouldn't.

Cheers,
-Nico

In a related topic, I have 3 ATE original style (2 retaining pin)
type 1 Karman Ghia brake calipers that I have gotten over the years
off cars where they had been mistakenly installed on early type 3s.
They don't work right on our cars because they have a 40 mm piston
instead of a 42.
