Re: [T3] FI plugs

That's what I thought too. Soldered is nice on a circuit board or if you're
plumbing with copper, but in a wiring harness in a harsh engine environment,
particularly the vibration. IMHO the solder method is just too brittle. If
you really want to do it m›XØd there is no stress on the solder joint,
of course. Maybe I was just doing it wrong. I think the best way to go is
to use crimp-style butt connectors & fold that joint back on itself like an
S with the butt splice in the middle & wrap it nice & tight with black tape
to keep the crud out. The entire load should be divided between the tape &
the insulation about an inch either side of the connection. Forgive me if
I'm being overly basic. I understand your desire for connection integrity
both in strength & cleanliness, but my solder joints were constantly
breaking with moderate stress. Like I said, maybe I was just doing it
wrong. Butt-splice connectors do just as well with less hassle I think.
Crimp & solder might not be a bad idea. Hmmm, maybe oxy-acetylene & some
good old welding rod...coat hanger maybe?
