I have done this conversion. There is also a guy in France http://members.tripod.com/~hitcherpage/ that has a sweet square that is running a type 4 engine. Very nice car and some pics of other European VW's. It's been a while since I have messed w/ my car but I should have some insight on how to do this. I ran a 1.7 in my 72 square 11 years ago. (That's the car I tried to drive through the house!) I remember having to clearance the bellhousing, fabricate a mount using the 3 & 4 mounts (a welding student here at the Tech school is going to clean up my welds this week. I'll have a pic of it on my site so you can look at it.), and relocating the input shaft bearing into the flywheel instead of the crank. I also cut the engine cover for the webers but I'm sure you can get around doing that w/ short manifolds/different carb setup. I'll keep a log§® all I do to get the engine in and running. It really wasnt that bad of a swap. Dave ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much? Digest! mailto:type3-d-request@vwtype3.org Subj=subscribe
